Please tell us a little about yourself:

Hello lovely reader, I am Urs, 33 years old from Freiburg Germany. I do not work in coffee, so I am very happy to represent not only Germany but also a bit the home brewer community, all the home roasters and toasters, mixing their water before every morning brew. I got the idea of competing in brewers cup three years ago in the back of a pick up truck in the hills of Nicaragua. A couple of months later I joined brewers cup for the first time with a Nicaraguan Parainema and three French presses from Ikea. This got me hooked and now I just fell in love with the people and the excitement of coffee competitions.

Hot take: If all those people involved would make croissants instead of coffee, I would equally excited join the world croissant championship, presenting the finest croissant flour variety on stage. It’s not about the coffee itself, definitely about a tasty complex product, but it’s about people and contact. Thank you for MCing, organising and everything else, looking forward to meet you!

What are you excited to do while you visit Brussels?

Definitely trying a different tasty dish every day. I always wanted to visit Brussels WBrC is finally a wonderful excuse.

What are your interests outside of coffee?

I love learning languages and I am currently trying to get a little Dutch and French in my head to get in touch with people in Brussels. Also I like flying helicopters.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WCC?

Definitely my loved ones, family friends and colleagues who always and most kindly bear my sour brews and me being crazy about coffee. Too many people to name
